Farm-fresh food for a healthy lifestyle
Kitchen Sink Farms is a non-profit farm in the making and we're breaking ground in Spring 2024! We will be growing a variety of crops right here in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This first year our main focus will be setting up our infrastructure. We will transform the 3 acre open lawn to productive and fertile beds for growing the best, most delicious nutrient-dense food we can! Kitchen Sink Farms uses all natural growing methods combining elements of Korean Natural Farming with organic, no-till and permaculture farming practices.
While we are busy setting up for full food production on our farm, we're also helping to plan and develop community garden plots for anyone interesting in growing their own food! For a small seasonal donation to the property manager for plot and site amenities, you too can grow your own food! Stay tuned for more information or contact us if you are interested in helping establish your own allotment on the ground floor.
This 1st year on the farm we are doing a lot of building! Yields will be tempered with growth. We will plant each bed as we can prepare them. As we turn the open lawn into fertile soil primed for crops, the farm will be expanding organically. We will be setting up longer term crops such as Asparagus, which will not yield for another 3 years. We're hoping to get Watermelons in as well as Pumpkins for an excellent late summer and fall harvest. We will be setting up and training berry vines and planting some of my family's favorites too (like Aunt Molly's Ground Cherries!) We will sow herbs and flowers as we can.
Our unique CSA subscription packages are available for sign-up this summer! Prepaid seasonal fresh produce boxes will be available for pickup or delivery on Sundays. Items will differ each week as they come into harvest and may include freshly baked sourdough, seasonal canned vegetables, fruits, jams, pickles or any variety of hand-crafted items from our friends on-site at Olive Thyme Catering.
This season we will be offering full and half market shares over the 20 week period from June 2nd to October 20th. Paying for your share before the season begins guarantees the availability of your produce box each week. Individual Weekly shares will also be available as a limited supply item until we run out. So get those orders in early!
Pickup will be at our location inside the South Entrance during the specified time range. If pickup is difficult for you or you would like to arrange for produce to be delivered as a gift, please inquire about our fresh produce box delivery service. Follow the link below to sign up and pay, then sit back and get ready for a season of great eating!
Keep an eye out for our roadside stand at 29887 W. 11 Mile Rd. If can you see it from the road, we are open for business! The stand will operate on the honor system, prices will be posted along with a cash drop box for your purchases. If you would like regular pickup or deliveries of farm fresh produce, check out our CSA programs for a subscription! Is that some Farm to Table in Farmington Hills or what?
We are constantly in need of items many people consider waste, the main function is to create as much quality compost that we can. The best compost comes from us controlling all the inputs as its made. City compost tends to have additional plastics, pesticides, herbicides and occasional metals city residents bag from their yards.
If you have leaves to donate in the fall, we will have a collection area dedicated to storing leaves and like "brown" compost ingredients. If you have excess waste plant matter, grass clippings from a non-chemically treated yard, or other "greens" compost ingredients, we will gladly accept in a collection area which will be quickly incorporated into a compost pile.
Woodchips are most welcome in helping us lay out pathways and contribute to the structure of the farm. If you are a local arborist in need of a place to dump chips or are able to donate woodchips to be picked up, please contact us on the form below. We appreciate everything you can spare!
Aside from those items, we are looking for all basic building supplies to form raised beds, compost bins, storage sheds, garden structures and irrigation systems. If you have anything that would be of use for an outdoor gardening/farming project, chances are we need it! Please contact us and let's discuss!
We are always looking for help on the farm. Chances are if you see me working in the field, I could probably find something for you to lend a hand on. If you are interested in helping us build our farm or helping to build the community garden, you are most welcome and perpetually invited! Just fill out the contact form below and I'll be in touch to discuss getting you involved.
As we grow over the next few years, we are hoping to establish paid employees managing and working the farm. We've got a little ways to go to get to that point, but we're well on our way!
